Is American Express Blue a good card for students?
I was interested in American Express Blue credit card because I've heard for the rewards system before and liked the idea of it. I'm about to enter college, I have a job, and I'm planning on paying all of my purchases off in full (my individual purchases usually don't exceed $150).
I also don't need a very high limit on the card.
Thanks in advance for all your help! Any other recommendations for a good student credit card would also help.
Answer
shop around for a card with the best interest rate, and where the rate is guaranteed for a specific amount of time. the rewards system is really only worth it if you use the card a lot--at 1 point per dollar spent, and rewards where 10,000 points gets you someting valued at around $50, retail, is a nice little bonus (for heavy business users mainly) but not a good reason to get that card. You are not likely to earn 10,000 points in a year, and the card probably has a 50.00 annual fee (Amex Green Rewards does).
Your plans sound like you are responsibly getting this card. Pls. be careful-accumulating debt is so easy and it creeps up-nobody intends to build up a $6,000 balance-it just happens. Be very cautious. Predatory lending is epidemic in this country-hence the mortgage crisis.
There are websites that do side by side card comparisons. Search for compare credit cards or something like that.
Sorry for the "mom" lecture-I learned the hard way. The fun of nice new stuff is gone long before the debt! Live simply-it's easier and less stressful.
