Best Student Credit Cards – My Review of the Top Credit Cards for Students

After reviewing many different credit cards for students, the best student credit cards and their offers and inducements that I find as safe as possible, in my opinion only, are as follows: Journey Student Rewards from Capital One. As a parent, what I like about this card is it helps students become educated about credit. It teaches the individual how to best use this card to their advantage. They will get emails and text alerts at no costs. Therefore they are instantly alerted if and what they are spending on, and if they are close to over spending, which is an excellent tool.

Best Student Credit Cards- Percentage Rates and Terms

As students get busy with classes and their busy social life, they can easily keep track of what they're spending. Over a period of time, they can see in black and white, what they are spending the most of their money on, and learn to curb their spending habits. One of the advantages is there is 1% cash back on all purchases. In order to be one of the best student credit cards, good rewards are helpful. A great reward is 25% cash back monthly, if they pay on time. With all the best student credit cards I have reviewed, there is zero liability if the card is stolen or lost. With this card, there were no annual fees. The APR is 19.8% and that's variable.

My next choice for best student credit cards for students is through CIT it is called the Dividend Platinum Select for college students. There is no requirement for a co-signer. This means if they have been careful in their spending habits, and paid their bills in a timely fashion, they don't need mom or dad to sign for them. There is a 5% cash back if they use the card to pay for utilities, groceries, and gas. Like most of these cards for students, there is 1% cash back for all other purchases. The APR is between 13.99% and 21.99% and that is variable. If a young person is responsible and reliable, I think this card would help them learn about, and respect credit. They are completely in charge of their spending habits and the consequences of their spending. They are solely responsible, and must learn to budget and be fully aware of when, where, and how they use this card. That is why this is one of the best student credit cards!

Discover Student Card- One of the Best Student Credit Cards for Sure!

Next would be the Discover Student Card at zero point APR for nine months, the variable is 13.99% to 20.99%. There is 5% cash back for some purchases. These may change from month to month and 1% on all other purchases.

In this same Discover Card family, there is also a Discover card called The Discover Open Road for Students, and it's pretty much the same thing. You will get bonus points for gas stations, and restaurants. If you frequent the same restaurants over time you will get more bonus points. This is not limited to certain restaurants, it's for any restaurants. This is a plus for students, as they often have their favorite pizza place, which may or may not be part of a chain restaurant. The Discover student card is one of the best student credit cards.

Best Student Credit Cards From a Parent’s Perspective

As a parent who pays due to kids over spending, or not yet aware of how much they are spending, my favorite best student credit card is put out by MasterCard titled aptly, Bill My Parents.

For parents who are paying for their high school and college students, this credit card is put out by MasterCard. It is a reloadable prepaid MasterCard. This card for parents is a no risk card, and there is no credit check. What I like best about this card is that it has a lock and unlock feature which you can use automatically. It's safer than cash if the card is stolen or lost. The fees are very low. What I consider best of all, for birthdays, graduations, and any other holidays, any relatives or loved ones can load this card with any amount they choose. Your student, and you as a parent, have the ability at all times to check and see the exact dollar amount, and how it is being spent. This allows your almost adult child and you to learn, and to track the spending habits of the cardholder. You will never pay a late fee and you will always know how much is left on the card as will your student.

Do your own research, or use mine. The bottom line being that the best card for your student is a decision based on knowing the maturity of your child, or young adult. The card that will last best suit their needs is something you can discuss together and advise them on as to their individual situation.
